What did the study find?
The study was carried out by the University of Galway and Boston University, examining reproductive health data from 1,329 women. They looked at things like when they got their first period, when they reached menopause, their reproductive lifespan and whether they started hormone replacement therapy after menopause.
In a follow-up evaluation of brain scans and cognitive test results, the findings showed that women who had gone through menopause earlier had a higher risk of dementia. However, in contrast, those who started treatment with HRT (hormone release) after menopause had a lower risk of dementia. For those uninitiated, HRT is a treatment for menopausal women when their bodies stop producing primary hormones like estrogen and progesterone. On a controlled scale, HRTs increase these hormones to help reduce the severity of menopausal symptoms.
What does the brain mean?
Estrogen has protective benefits for the brain.Research has shown that women who took HRT were significantly less likely to develop dementia than those who did not.Research has shown that women are more likely to develop dementia than men.Remote changes are contributing factors.Does it show how good health and hormones are closely related.
