New York must bring the blueprint for success to Madison Square Garden, where it is 0-4-1 this season.
Greenburg, New York - The New York Rangers can win on the road.
Their challenge is to figure out how to win at Madison Square Garden.
"I think we provided a lot of evidence for ourselves [on our trip] that if we play the game with the right intentions, we're going to give ourselves a chance to win," coach Mike Sullivan said Monday.
In four games last week (2-0), the Edmonton Canucks (4-3) and the disappointment of Seattle (5-1 loss to 5-1 loss) were visited.
They scored first in each of their three wins and even tied the game 3-1 in the third period in Edmonton. New York improved its road record to 6-1-1.
But the Rangers returned to their practice facility Monday and prepared to face the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; HBO MAX, truTV, TNT, MSG, SN1).They are 0-4-1 on home ice, with their only point coming in a 6-5 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks in their last home game on Oct. 23 before the road trip.
They went 9-1 in their first four games and became the first team in history to be shut out in their first three games of the season.
"I think it's going to be a tough start at home now, and we have to prioritize getting the game started on time," Rangers captain J.t.Miller said.
In Miller Point, New York trailed 5-2 in the first period at home, allowing two goals in the final minute. It scored first in five road games in the first round, going 5-0-0 in those games.
It's not like we're going to play a certain game at Sullivan's house and then play a different game on the snow on the road. I think this band is like this band, I think this road trip proves to you that in a way, we play the road a certain way, we play ourselves a certain way.
As the Rangers showed in Vancouver, Edmonton and Seattle, their approach is solid defense without sacrificing offense. He must be quick and confident in all three areas, creating more first chances than the opposition in the offensive zone. Just be durable.
